Did anyone get married this weekend?

Had lots of fun this weekend, hanging out with Dana and Lanny, eating out hearts out. My friend Matt went down with his boyfriend to get married this weekend. I'm not sure if he was able to get in though because I heard there was quite a line! if you don't know what I'm talking about here is the lowdown: Gavin Newsom our new mayor was watching Bush give a speech and decided that he needed to do something to counteract the ignorance he heard, so he legalized Gay marriage in San Francisco. i guess there is a religious group that is trying to stop it but will not be able to do anything until tuesday.

Tom asked me if i wanted to get married but I can't imagine getting married without my family and friends present. If it doesn't get blocked tomorrow, i'll start to think about it. plus I still have a domestic partnership with Randy that i need to take care of. It's sort of a sore point with Tom. I just don't even know where to begin with fixing it, do i need a lawyer or what? I just don't even want to think about dealing with it. I just wish someone would tell me that I could pick up a form and fill it out and be done with it.

I am really amazed with Newsom. He just won some major points with me. I haven't forgotten about the "Care not Cash" homeless plan fiasco, though. I am happy to be proven wrong. i hope Newsom continues to make me wrong. Go Newsom!

So, did anyone get married this weekend?

Not me~ But my girlfriend and her fiancee (a guy) went and volunteered on Vday = ) She spent the day typing up 250 marriage licenses!!! I'm so proud of her - I wish I would have known about the opportunity. She's definitely a loyal San Franciscan!!

That is so cool! I wih I could have gone down to take pictures for Matt and Tom, but who knew how long they would have to wait, and since I had out of town guests, I didn't want to keep them from the things thay had planned.

I think your priority should definitely be to get out of the d.p. before getting married (if it's still allowed after Tuesday). I guess you are technically engaged then. :-)

I'm still amazed that your choices came down to a liberal democrat (who just openly started issuing marriage licenses to homos!!!) and a green!

Wow, San Francisco is such a neat place. :) May the job market recover enough so I can get a job there.

I would love it if you were able to move to SF. The economy is getting better and so is finding a place to live!

gay marriage has been legal in british columbia for some time now. long enough where on the second date i went on with robbie (my last boyfriend) it was a topic of discussion (i DID NOT bring it up, he did). robbie and i did not work out, which makes me wonder, has anyone realized that with gay marriage comes gay divorce?

has anyone realized that with gay marriage comes gay divorce?

The cynic in me says "bingo." And then, I think about what someone told me about the way the legal side of marriage evolved in the US, which was apparently thru divorce law.

It still amounts to equal treatment, even if in practice it translates into "equal opportunity to create a great big messy headachey spectacle."

I totally agree! I had been with Randy for some time before we became domestic partners, probably about two years. The DP has been hanging over my head for almost 5 years. I originally agreed to it so I could get health insurance. I think gay marriage is great for those who know what they are getting into. I wonder how many will make it. I love Tom, and plan on being with him forever, but I will still have to think about marrying him. There's a lot more to think about than just love.
