First LJ meeting.

I had a great weekend. I met my first LJ person in the flesh on Sunday. desidono came down from Washington with his boyfriend Brian. I was a bit nervous, I've never met anyone that I had only had contact with through the net. Plus most of the net meet and greet stuff I've witnessed make for a good horror story. Like the time Matthias a came to visit me and told me he was bringing a friend. Notice I used the word told and not asked. This friend was actually some guy he had been IMing who was from Kansas. Matthias was from Germany and Mr. Kansas had no clue what he was about to get into. Since I had gone through so much with Matthias I really felt sorry for the guy. He had no clue that people's online personalities could be completely different from their true personality. The poor guy couldn't run away fast enough. I tried to help him out as much as possible. I doubt he'll ever travel across country to meet someone he met online ever again.

But meeting desidono wasn't a date and I was familiar with his journal. It's a lot harder to put your best foot forward in journal entries than IMs. When Desi first called me after he hung up I turned to Tom and said, "He sounds a lot butcher than I would have thought." I found out latter that he used his butch voice. We made plans to meet at the bar Twin Peaks, It just such a relaxed bar and It would be easy to pick out two guys in their twenties among all the 60 year olds. I arrived a couple of minutes late but there was no sign of them. I ordered a drink and sat down a listened to a conversations about how you can't be buried in San Francisco.
Eventually I ordered a second drink and partway through I saw Brain and Robb (desi) walking up the street.

When I was out with my friend Rupal at Golden Era, Tom had mentioned that I was going to have online friends visiting over the weekend. This sparked something I need to tell Lanny. Steve Burns. The guy from Blues Clues. Lanny loved his band. Robb and Brian were going to see him in concert while they were in town. When I told Lanny, I was shocked by his reaction. He was upset. He was on the mailing list, why hadn't they emailed him to let him know he was in town. The first thing the next day Lanny called me and told he had bought us tickets for the show. He was happy again.

Now Lanny played me stuff once from Steve's website but that was it. I knew nothing about the guy or his music. Now I was going to his concert with online friends, this could be a disaster.

As Brain, Robb and I drank our cocktails in Twin Peaks we talked, or actually Robb and I talked. Brian was really quiet. I was a bit worried that he was not into the LJ meeting. Then as we were leaving to tour the Castro, Lanny showed up. We walked around most of the Castro and Brian started to come out of his shell. We had dinner at Nirvana and then walked to Café Du Nord where the show was at. We got some amazing seats during the first act in a little nook with a big couch and comfy chairs. Oh, did I mention that we have been having a heat wave? It was hotter than Texas in that place. Poor Robb and Brian were not expecting the weather to be so unseasonably hot. We don't have Air Conditioning in SF. It only get above 80 maybe seven days a year. This year has been strange however. We've already had more than 10 days, not complaining, and we always have nice warm days in the fall. When we went into the show we got stamped on our wrists with a blue snowman. I thought it was quite appropriate that by the end of the show my snowman had melted pretty much away.

The show was really good. They are such a fun band. Lot of interaction with the audience. I swear he looked at me a few times a winked. He is such a cutie, I now know why Lanny and Robb were so excited about the show. I really like that you could see fun and a twinge of trouble in Steve's eyes.

After the Show we wanted to have a drink somewhere cool so we walked to the nearby Pilsner and had a drink out in the back Patio. Robb and I got to talk about being geeks while Lanny and Brian had way too much fun talking about gardening and other stuff like that. I really enjoyed myself. The LJ meet is a good thing. I'm really glad I got to hang out with desidono and his boyfriend. I think we clicked really well.

I wish Robb and Brian could have stuck around longer. But unfortunate Lanny and I had to work the next day, so it was no use convincing them to stay another day. It was getting late so we said our farewells. I had to be up at 7:30 and I didn't get home until 1:00. I feel really good for getting less than seven hours of sleep. Especially since it seems all I did yesterday was drink and sweat.

Re: like cotton...
I dunno, that sweat I wasn't all that down with. I mean, there's types of sweat that I do like, but sweat cuz it's just all freakin' hot isn't one of them.

The drinking was dandy though (helps to make you forget about the sweat... or gives you [more] ideas of things that can potentially make you the good type of sweaty).
