Before you kiss me, you should know...

I've had this song in my head for a few weeks now. I don't know why but this song has affected me so much. Maybe it's the sadness. Maybe it's the outsider-ness. Maybe it's the warning, the honesty. Maybe it's the odd state of mind I have been in latly.

Artist : Magnetic Fields
Song : Papa Was A Rodeo

I like your twisted point of view, Mike
I like your questioning eyebrows
You've made it pretty clear what you like
It's only fair to tell you now

that I leave early in the morning
and I won't be back till next year
I see that kiss-me pucker forming
but maybe you should plug it with a beer, cause

Papa was a rodeo - Mama was a rock'n'roll band
I could play guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand
Home was anywhere with diesel gas - Love was a trucker's hand
Never stuck around long enough for a one night stand
Before you kiss me you should know
Papa was a rodeo

The light reflecting off the mirror ball
looks like a thousand swirling eyes
They make me think I shouldn't be here at all
You know, every minute someone dies

What are we doing in this dive bar
How can you live in a place like this
Why don't you just get into my car
and I'll take you away I'll take that kiss now, but

Papa was a rodeo - Mama was a rock'n'roll band
I could play a guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand
Home was anywhere with diesel gas - Love was a trucker's hand
Never stuck around long enough for a one night stand
Before you kiss me you should know
Papa was a rodeo

And now it's 55 years later
We've had the romance of the century
After all these years wrestling gators
I still feel like crying when I think of what you said to me

(boy) Papa was a rodeo - Mama was a rock'n'roll band
I could play a guitar and rope a steer before I learned to stand
Home was anywhere with diesel gas - Love was a trucker's hand
Never stuck around long enough for a one night stand

Before you kiss me you should know - Papa was a rodeo
What a coincidence, your Papa was a rodeo too

I hear this song I my heart aches. It's help tears well up so I could wipe them away. I could really use a good cry, but I guess I'm not quite ready yet. I have so many emotions going on all at once it's hard to follow through with any of them. I wish I could drive out into the middle of the desert somewhere with a tent and spend a night away from everyone. I used to do this with my friend Brent. I love the desert at night. It's so quiet, dark and clean. I always felt like the air I was breathing was purified.

Yeah, That would be fun. I should be back from my trip to LA by then. Unless I run into a LJ freind who lives in SF before you get here, you will be the first LJer I will meet. And since I will be in LA for a week. Looks like your number one!!!

Matty is wondering...
Matty is wondering whether you are experiencing a sense of loss? Did something left your life? Are you missing something in your life?

Or are you just plain lonely, like me...

I think I will sing myself an incredibly painful song to get my tears going too.

Re: Matty is wondering...
Just a bit of optimism. Things are changeing so quickly. I was really upset by my mother not knowing who I was. I also lost my iPod... but that can be replaced my optimism takes a bit more work.

your favorite music makes you sad
i heart the lyrics to that song...tell me this: is it like a country song, rock n roll or a little bit of both?

Re: your favorite music makes you sad
Couldn't really say, he has a deep baratone voice and it's slow with just a drum and guitar. I guess it would be kind of a mix between both. It sound very much like it would be a lenord cohen song.
