Last night- Reactions

So I have to say I was a bit surprised by the reactions Jason got when he came out last night. Dana and I picked up Jason and we met up with Steve and Rupal at Moshi for sushi and drinks. We sat at the bar and and talked for quite some time while Jason built of courage to tell Dana and Steve. After a few glasses of Liquid Courage, he was still not quite ready, but Rupal needed a ride home. So after a bit of whispering between Jason and I, we suggested we moved the on to Zeitgeist a straight biker bar (where I met Tom and where Jason came out to Katie a month earlier.)

When Jason was finally ready I made sure to watch Steve's reaction. He raised his eyebrows, he raised his voice about four octaves and sort of whispered "ok." Jason didn't give much lead in to what he was going to say. He basically said, "You know I broke up with Kristy right. Do you know why? I told her that I'm gay." Steve was pretty quiet for quite a while letting Dana receive all the focus. I think if Steve could have disappeared he would have. Dana's reaction was, "What?!?" followed by a very confused look on her face with an awkward smile. We could tell Dana was a bit upset.

After I while she explained to us, "I only have three straight men that are my friends who I hang out with, and one of them was Jason (who is not straight), Steve (who is questionable at best) and the other Jason (who is a definitive straight man.) I seem to be a fag targeting system. I seek out the gay man, whether I know it or not and become their best friend. I'm doomed to never have a boyfriend and to just be a fag hag!" She'll be fine. She has already made plans to go shoe shopping with Jason.

Hey, there are worse fates. And, um, I hate to fall back on stereotypes, but she does live in/around San Francisco. There are a lot of us out there.

This little detail just really made this post. So funny.

Yeah, there are a lot of gay boys in SF. SF does something to the straight boys here too, they all just seem so gay. My friend Michelle is going to start going to other cities so she can find a man who can ride a motorcycle, hold a conversation, and still be able to hold his own in a relationship. Most of the straight guys in SF turn all artsy and wimpy after a few years. It's strange.
