MILK

So last night I saw MILK at the Castro Theatre and I thought it was brilliant. It was an amazing experience, I'm guessing it's like the gay Twilight. When certain people came on the screen the Audience (mostly bears- supposedly over 680) hissed or cheered. By the end of the movie the bears in the row in front of me were sobbing so much I was worried about drowning. It really is a great movie and I think Sean Pen is definitely going to get nominations for his performance.

Tom has told me several times that Dan White lived in our neighborhood (just a few blocks up) and he remembered his parents putting up a poster that said "Unite and Fight with Dan White". What I had failed to realize was that Tom remembers Dan White coming into our house and shaking his father's hand. Tom says he thought Dan White was a bad man.

Since nobody ever know the district I live in; Portola (pronounced “Por’-ta-la) maybe now I'll just tell people I live in Dan White's former district. I guess ever since the assassination San Franciscan's have tried to forget the district. Come on gays move to the Portola. Gay up White's neighborhood.

I'm very confused by the different pronunciation, I think it's to differentiate from the street Portola. I wonder if your mom knew Tom's family, they've been here since the 50's. We live near the Bell market.

MILK opened here today. I think megatronbomb and I are going to see it on Saturday.
Terry Gross interviewed the screenwriter the other day on Fresh Air. He was raised Mormon and is one of the writers for BIG LOVE.
1978 was a very weird year; first Jonestown, then the Milk/Moscone murders, just before the onset of the Reagan years.
