Nothing make me want to help someone more than when they refer to me repeatedly by a name that isn't one of the ones I go by. I am having a hard time keeping a straight face every time one of my coworkers comes by to ask for help from me (Herschel). I completely understand someone not remembering a coworkers name and I have done this myself many times... but not when I worked in the cube directly across from the person for 6 months. We do work with someone named Herschel. He's hot, so I'm not completely offended.

I do find it funny that she is calling me Herschel, a common Jewish name. Both Herschel and I have had people confront us when we make claims that we aren't jewish. He has a jewish name and I have the Jewish looks. My old roommate Kim has a friend who has flat out told me I was wrong and how could I not be jewish... on many occasions. Maybe if I told her I was a Roman with a irish last name she would have stopped arguing with me. I guess the "so irish it hurts" last name wasn't enough to convince her.

Why don't you tell her? It might make her feel stupid, but you have every right to be called by your own name.

Tell a co-worker to tell her without letting her know that you know. Easy.
