LA Times Three

Modern times seem too fast, unfriendly, self absorbed. The times really aren’t that bad though, people are just in too much of a hurry and forget the importance of the little things. Simple words like please and thank you. Tiny gestures like holding the door or waving or even a smile. I try to remind myself the impact these little things have on the world.

Yesterday I held the door for a woman entering the restaurant I was leaving and she smiled and said thank you. I smiled back, said your welcome and thought to myself what a nice woman. I walked away form the restaurant with my mood improved. It’s silly but when you are having a bad day the little things can turn everything around.

On another note, I just got back from LA for a second time this month. This time it was for Kirsten and Phinny’s Birthdays. I was finally able to meet the incredibly sexy Shamar Moore. I didn’t really talk to him beside quick introductions. I just sort of lurked and listened. He’s amazingly quick and funny. I now know why He and Kirsten are such good friends. I was disappointed that using my own gaydar I can confirm he is straight. I was really hoping he was gay and had a weakness for white guys in their 30s with facial hair and big noses and brown hair, but no such luck.

The party was really fun, but I was sure I was going to be ill from terror. Kirsten is performer and for her birthday she wants performances as presents. She has been having lip sych birthday parties for years and they are brilliant. Years ago it wasn’t terrifying, there would be about 10 our friends and we all knew each other. We would toss a cd into the player and say play track five please. But each year the party gets bigger and more elaborate. This year there was probably 80-100 people and there was a stage, an actual real stage with lighting. When I saw it the terror began to creep in. I was unprepared, I knew the lyrics but not well enough. I hadn’t had time to rehearse.

I had two drinks but realized they were so sweet they were giving me a headache, so I declined any more. I was at least happy I was number 12, I had a long way before I had to perform. After the first act I began to realize the performances over the years have also gotten grander. There was choreography, props and ornate costumes. I was doomed, I had none of these things. The only thing I had was a brilliant song choice. That's when I was told I was on next. My first thought was , "sh!t I really have to pee."

Growing up my family was really into The Young and the Restless. I remember being a wee person when Shemar Moore started appearing. I also remember jerking off like mad to him.

Oh, memories.

You're right about people now days. Usually it's all about them. But when a person says "thanks you" or smile. I throws you off kilter because it's not expected. I always holds doors and smile. Whether they like it or not.

That little movie was cute. You're like my friend Kathy. She could do that. Take a mop and make it work.
