And then Enters c9

Welcome c9
I don't do music reviews very often but these two needed to be reviewed!
I love Rufus! The new Rufus, "Want Two" is amazing... this first song made me think of Rufus performing with Dead can Dance! The album has the songs that were previously exclusives from itunes.com. It's a great album of sad hopeful tunes with emotional piano and haunting vocals. I don't understand why the gay community hasn't taken him upon their shoulders. I guess Joe Homo is still busy with the tragic trailer moments of Brittany... I guess thats understandable. Hopefully Rufus will get some of the spotlight soon, he actually writes songs about being gay as well as not being bad to look at! Come on people!

I also got the new Leonard Cohen, "Dear Heather" and while I haven't finished listening to it all the way through.... I worried about Leonard... in the song "On that Day" a song about 9/11 NY WTC he uses a mouth banjo or some boing boing backwoods deliverance sounding instrument. It just seemed to not in tune with the lyrics it made me laugh and cringe all at once. maybe the album will grow on me... some of the other songs are put together quite nicely like "There for you" but there are quite a few songs that snap me into shock as to how these songs made it onto the album. In the title track Dear Heather, Leonard decides to one up Cher's vocoder revival and go for the Borg vocal sound. I can't help but laugh, but deep down I think I'm crying a little.

Both albums come out on Tuesday at record stores near you.

How'd you get your hands on the new Rufus? It doesn't come out until Tuesday! :-) Did I tell you that I saw him last May in Austin? He was fucking excellent. I LOVE "Want"... such an amazing album, but so is "Poses." ;-)

Tom brought it home for me because he knows how much I love Rufus. Tom is the Electronica buyer for a Northern California Record store. Want 2 is a two disk set that includes a DVD of a live performance at San Francisco's Fillmore! I'm sure you are going to love it. Did you download the waiting for want songs from iTunes? Waiting for a Dream (which is also available on want 2) is quite possibly my favorite song of the year and it has has some very stiff competition.

There was a link to a Rufus video on Gay.com. I like his voice a lot. I'm especially fond of One Man Guy and his version of Across the Universe (which I think was featured in I Am Sam).
