Lost in Translation

Went to see Lost in Translation last night. It was excellent. I laughed my ass off and had to buy a new one first thing this morning. There were so many great scenes. I love the fact that there were no subtitles at all in the whole movie. If the dialogue was in a foreign language and you don't speak it you are just as lost as Bill Murray was. There is a great scene where a director is talking for almost five minutes and the translator says; "He wants you to do it with more intensity." That's it.

If anyone has seen it and wants to know what was said at certain parts, I might be able to help, let me know.

i like bill murray and i like japan (i know, i know... horrible generalization... like saying "i like food"). i've been meaning to catch this flick. it would be VERY interesting to actually understand japanese and watch the movie, but unfortunately since the only japanese i know is from rpg's, i'm kinda screwed. now if the movie has partly in german... ich würde kein problemverständnis das haben.

Actually there is a small amount of German in the movie. I was unable to understand it with my below remedial skills. I was only able to understand a little of the Japanese, I am really out of practice, but it has been ten years. I went to the move with a few Japanese friends and one of them translated some of the scenes for us afterwards.

i'll admit my german isn't really that good. i took 2 years of conversational german at university and of course there was good ol' swearing dad (he's VERY german).
