reboot my life

I'm in the midst of a life reboot. I tend to do this every ten years or so. Here are some of the changes currently under meta-morphus.

• Growing a handlebar mustache.
• After having listened to "The Four Agreements" by Miguel Ruiz, I'm trying to change my behaviors and viewpoints.
• New Digital SLR will be breathing art back into my life. I am hoping to be doing portrait photography for fun in the very near future.
• I'm stepping up at work and taking credit for the work I do and the skills I have in hopes of getting a promotion. I'm done with laying low.

That all sounds great!

Except for that bit about the handlebar mustache...

I was told mustache rides free... means if I have a 'stach I ride for free.

What are you looking at for the new D-SLR? I've been using a Nikon D40 for the last year and a half, but the D700 is very tempting, as is the Canon 5D Mark II.

I just bought a Nikon D60. It's going to feel good to be using a real camera and not a point and shoot.

There is a world of difference in the quality of the photos - point and shoots just don't have the glass and silicon to capture as much detail as a D-SLR.

If you're interested and a beginner, I highly recommend PHOTO 51 at CCSF, especially under Jeff Weston. I learned a hell of a lot, and the shooting assignments were really fun.

you probably forgot you even commented...
It took me some time... but I really wanted to respond to this comment. Your photos are really great. The self portrait in the mirror is really a wonderful photo.

I took probably 7 or 8 photo classes over 10 years ago. ouch that hurt to type. I could probably use a refresher course. I'm mostly interested in portraits. I love capturing that little something in a persons eyes that make you wonder what they were thinking. I managed to find some cheap studio lighting ... now I just need to clear a space big enough to use the lights.

Thanks! That self-portrait mirror shot was a lot of fun, and my friend Michael says it's one of his favorites.

I recall some of your photos from parties where you experimented with light and blurring, and I hope you'll post some of the new portrait stuff you do. I like portraits as well (candid ones, at least) and plan to soon get a good prime f/1.4 lens for taking them in low light.

Yay this is awesome! I <3 life upgrades. Well, you called it a reboot. But I am thinking of it as an upgrade. Hope that's ok by you ;-)
