Bought and sold like a cheap whore

I'm home sick, I have a really bad case of death warmed over with a side of delirium. I mistakenly decided to check my work email, maybe it wasn't a mistake but it definitely not helped my stress levels. My company was just bought by Microsoft this morning. All the emails I have received have been hype about the acquisition. The head of IT sent out a cheery message with a FAQ, but doesn't answer a very simple question, why would Microsoft want to keep another IT department? They have their own IT setup, with all their certified technicians. I am not nor have I ever been Microsoft certified anything. I wouldn't mind being certified, I've just never had enough time to do it. I do feel like I am a little safer that most of the other IT crew because I'm one of the three Mac guys. Of course if Microsoft gets rid of the Macs why would they want to keep a non certified technician who specializes in Macs.

Just a side note... I am not your usual IT guy. I'm nice. I not a snob. I explain things to those who want to learn. I know how to do things outside of my specialty. I aim to fix the problem not the symptom. recently my coworker has been disabling the second processor on laptops to fix a beeping problem. My view is halving the power is not fixing the problem.

So, my Mac tech skills may save me again, I might be one of the few people in IT to keep their job. It's funny that just as I am beginning to enjoy my job again, something would happen to make me appreciate it more. If this would have happened a few months ago It would have been the kick I needed.

I think it's funny that the company thinks we will blindly believe their emails, when they claimed this day wouldn't come. Just a few weeks ago, DoubleClick was bought by Google. and the rumors started flying that we would be bought by Microsoft in response to counter. The email sent out was that would not be happening and we were proud to be the last big independent.

I might soon have a Microsoft email address... scary.

The good thing is the company stock doubled today. I need to figure out how to sell it.

Feel better soon kiddo!

That's funny, I wouldn't expect to see two posts relating to this today, but I have.

aQuantive, eh?

Wow... 6 billion is a tidy sum. I'd say make a play to migrate over to the Mac BU. Hear they're decent guys over there. Course, you could always do IT in their marketing or PR departments - it's no secret they all use Macs there in those parts of MS.
