Bob Bernard Dies.

I can’t believe I missed this... Ding dong Bob the devil is dead. There are two people who screwed so many people over it’s still infuriating to me over six years later. Robert Shaw the lesser of the two evils sold the company I worked for to the devil, Bob Bernard. Who knew the devil was named Bob? Robert took the money and ran, knowing he had sold us down the river. I instantly I didn’t like Bob or his flawed strategic plan, but I was stupid and naïve, I had no idea things could go nearly as wrong as they did.

You may remember that I survived 23 rounds of layoffs as we went from tens of thousands of employees to about 100. Bob’s strategy turned out to be to hire as many professionals as he possibly could, courting venture capitalist and putting on the appearance of being in charge of the world’s largest internet company. He built a company knowing it would collapse under it’s own weight he was more concerned with growing in size rather than growing clients. He had a plan that would allow him to siphon the money out of the company and thus ruin many people’s lives. Bob was a vampire.

I managed to come out of his losing only a $12,000. I was lucky. You see the last six months of the company’s existence I was being paid as normal and was having my 401k, employee stock purchase plan, medical and such removed from my paychecks, but the money that I was paying for my medical wasn’t going to my insurance company. So I was paying for insurance, but didn’t have any... and didn’t know I didn’t have any. I didn’t know until almost a year later when the billing agents for my Doctor called me to clarify what insurance I had when because they were unable to get anyone to pay for several of my visits... remember I am a bit of a hypochondriac. I ended up having to pay about $1000 bucks out of my pocket as well as for the insurance I didn’t have. I also lost quite a bit in stock... Out of my own stupidity and laziness.

But the main reason I hate Bob with a passion is what he did to other people. My friend Brian had a tumor in his head and had it removed. He had to endure the stress of having brain surgery, then being laid off and then being stuck with uninsured brain surgery bills. I’m sure that was a lot more then eight thousand dollars. Aki also went through similar events only she was pregnant and had complications. Can you imagine how horrible that year was for her, I’m sure the chunk of money they had saved up for their new baby’s college fund was used to pay medical bills that should have been covered by the insurance they were paying for.

Bob was an evil man and I’m glad he is dead. He managed to make himself incredibly rich and put an awful lot of people in debt. After the bankruptcy he built a new million dollar home in Chicago. He started a new multi million dollar company and continued living in his champagne dreams off the insurance dollars of his former now mostly jobless employees. Karma isn't a bitch, Karma is really quite fair.

WhittmanHart CEO Dies
February 05, 2007
By Brian Morrissey

NEW YORK WhittmanHart founder Bob Bernard died Friday from an apparent heart attack, according to an obituary placed by his family in the Chicago Tribune. He was 45.

Bernard founded the Chicago agency in 2003 out of the assets of bankrupt dot-com era consultancy/Web shop MarchFirst, which had acquired WhittmanHart in 2000. Bernard merged its assets with Form + Function Consulting, a firm he founded in 2001.

WhittmanHart rebounded with the revival of demand for online advertising, Web design and consulting services. It now has nine offices and over 400 employees. In September it hired investment bank DecisionPoint to advise it on an acquisition strategy. Later that month, it bought DNA Studio, a Los Angeles-based Web video specialist that works for several Hollywood studios.

The company, which is independent, has named Paul Wimer, a member of its board of directors, to serve as chairman and CEO, positions held by Bernard. (Wimer is a managing director of Topspin Partners, an investor in WhittmanHart. He has served on the board for the past five years.)

"Bob had a tremendous impact on this organization," Wimer said in a statement. "Under his leadership, WhittmanHart grew from a small IT consulting shop to become the dynamic interactive agency and business consultancy it is today."

Bernard is survived by his wife Elisa, and children Kendal and Bryce.

How did Bob avoid criminal charges for all the fraud he committed?

I really don't understand that myself. I was amazed he wasn't stripped of all his money and thrown in jail. I'm guessing some payola was involved combined with the excuse... it wasn't me it was the "company"

there is another interesting article here

You know that we sue people like Bob. Well, technically we sue companies like Bob's since I assume he was smart enough for it to be incorporated. you shouldn't have ever had to pay those bills. In fact you could probably get some, if not all, of that money back. Depending on the statute of limitations.

He died from a heart attack at 45 after fucking up so many lives and he couldn't take his money with him or live very long to 'enjoy' it, if that would have been possible. Sounds like he got what he had coming to him alright.
And you, my friend, are still alive.
Just imagine the stress he put himself through to generate that heart attack.
Now if someone would figure a way to cause Cheney's pacemaker to malfunction, the whole country feel could share in your vindication or whatever it is I mean, I may be slightly buzzed.

Check this out...
This just in from "those who know"...

1) Bob Bernard was evidently being investigated by the FEDS for something. In fact, the rumor is that the whittmanhart board knew this and perhaps that he was about to be indicted. (For what I do not know)

2) On the day Bob Bernard Died... He was called into a whittmanhart board meeting. At this meeting, the board FIRED Bob Bernard. This was either due to his legal problems, or because they were sick and tired of his company losing money every quarter and having to borrow 15-30 million per quarter to cover costs.

3) No secret here... he died most likey because in typical "bob" style, he left the board meeting, and hooked up with the "FOBS" (Friends of Bob)... where they probably went to a titty bar and had drinks. Well, that is speculation... but I'd be willing to bet my left nut that Bob went on a bender, blew down a gram of coke, went home, popped open a $500 bottle of wine and sat back thinking about all the people he has fucked in the last 10 years and waited until his heart exploded.

I don't work for him. I do know people that did and still do work for the organization.

His poor wife and kids though... I don't take anything away from them. Cute kids, and actually a VERY cute wife. If only she knew (which she probably does) about his regular cheating with hookers down on rush street, etc.

Let's hope David Skinner is next.
