Box set collection

d2leddy posted the question "What do you collect?" it was an interesting question. I'm sure there are things I collect that I don't even realize.

I collect:
1. Porn (people refer to my collection as the library) Anytime I go to a new country I try to buy some local porn.
2. Things with my last name on it. Mostly whiskey bottles and books
3. Knitted finger puppets. I then take pictures with them as the subject.
4. Empty boxes, It’s an unhealthy compulsion. Boxes are just so useful. I did fill up my recycling can a few months ago for for a month straight with nothing but excess boxes... And I still had a lot I didn’t toss.
5. Music. Record store geek what can I say.
6. Cool T-shirts
7. Photos. I love found photos from estate sales- to see a glimpse of strangers lives and their vacations. I course I also take a ton of photos myself.
8. Tickets from movies and concerts I have attended.
9. Tools- but only when I’m upset. If I have a problem I can’t fix, I buy a tool or use one to fix something that can be fixed.

What do you collect?

Comic book collecting really got absurdly expensive. I can't even really get a couple of titles a month anymore, because it's just so crazy, and it's killing the industry: people just wait for the trades, so the sales on monthlies are down and they're not lasting, so what'll be left to republish in the trades?

Porn and cheese. For a moment, I thought I was reading Photosexual's journal!

Tattoos! I forgot that one. I have quite a collection, as yet unfinished.

1. Foreign Currency. Pretty standard, I guess.
2. Old German books with Frakturschrift. So far I only have one...
3. National Geographic Magazines. Since 1991.
4. Music, in the form of CDs and MP3s.
5. Beer Mugs. The kind that have the specific beer logo on it.
6. Ticket stubs. Much like you.
7. Credit Card Receipts. I staple them to my credit card statements. Don't know why. Just do.

I like that song you were listening to. That one and the one before it are really good on the new Röyksopp. They were great in concert back in July at Bimbo's.

A Sideways Response
It *is* a good question, so I've decided to answer it in my own LJ as it will get lost over here.

I've seen you post in Rice's journal, but not paid any attention until I saw your posts in et_blackbird's (incredible) journal, which I am reading from Day One forward.

As a result, I spent a while this morning reading your LJ back to June 05. All the while I kept saying "how interesting" or "how mature" (in a complimentary, not smarmy way) and for that reason you have been added.

I collect:
  1. Friends, and not just on livejournal.
  2. Stories, it helps with the friends thing, and whiles away the time.
  3. Books
  4. Strategy board games
  5. Dust

Thing about dust is that it's low in fat, so you can eat as much dust as you like.

1. Comic books. Not as much now as when I was living in Ireland and earning a western wage, but I still love them.
2. Buttons, especially ones that I find in the street or ones that fall off people's clothing. I sometimes ask people for a button off their shirt, if it's really something.
3. Things that remind me of the good times in my childhood, like toys of certain characters, DVDs of old shows and books I used to love. I never understood the strength of this compulsion until recently.
4. Music, movies and TV shows, which is very standard.
5. Small wooden boxes, which is the worst of my collection-obsessions, as they really take up space when I have to move!
6. Concert tickets, admission tickets and the like. They used to be all hung on my door at home.
7. Marbles.
8. Pictures of ravens, crows, blackbirds and rooks, and pictures of cats and big cats, especially tigers. It's testament to how YES! FINALLY! I felt when I saw you in Berlin that I didn't see the blackbirds on the glass behind you.

With all the moves, my collection is now scattered between Ireland, Poland and Germany, and I've had to either downsize or box up and send home big chunks of it. I try to see the collections as unnecessary nesting material when I move, but they have a lot of significance for me. Most will end up back in Ireland.
