Good news bad news...

Back in the beginning of 2003 my backup hard drive went bad... not a big deal it was a backup... but then I realized I had just deleted all the photos I had taken in 2002 from my laptop and the only copies i had were on the back up drive. I tried for a month to no avail to revive the drive and get the data back. It was far to expensive to pay to have the drive recovered, several thousand dollars! A coworker who is a mad tinkerer and loves to recover data asked if I wanted him to try. I thanked him profusely for trying but he was unable to get anything back either. He recently got some new tools and asked if i wanted him to try again... and just a few minutes ago he said he has fixed the drive, there was a lose pin inside the drive that was hindering the recovery and is now getting gigs of data back! So two years after i lost my photos, I'm probably going to get them back, super-yayness!

Shortly after I hear this news, Tom calls to tell me his dad just called and he has been unable to walk for the last two days. He didn't go to church on Sunday, that is a not something that ever happens. Tom's dad does exaggerate everything (think big fish) but the fact that he missed church has me worried. I am remaining optimistic though because Al is one tough man. Tom is taking him to the hospital tomorrow and I can't help but be worried how Tom will get Al down the narrow flight of stairs. Barbara is going to be helping Tom but I am betting they will need my help as well.

Go help! If only to feel less helpless :-) Also, does his church have a network of people who come to you and give you communion or flowers? It might be worth looking into, if this turns out to be something serious.

I am in sort of a similar if less serious situation. My grandfather goes in for cataract surgery on Thursday. Mom's headed down to Louisville Wednesday night, and they might need me on Saturday/Sunday to handle the running around.

So, wish you the best and hope everything's fine!
